ROCKFORD, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's tennis team posted an unbeaten
record over the weekend, picking up wins over Western Illinois and Northern
Illinois in Rockford at the Boylan Tennis Center. The Phoenix defeated WIU on
Saturday 6-1 after beating NIU 5-2 on Friday.
Erik Finkenbrink (Duelman, Germany) was involved in four wins over the
weekend, earning a pair of victories at the No. 1 singles spot and two more at
No. 2 doubles. On Friday, the sophomore beat NIU's Maksym Bartiuk 5-7, 7-6,
11-9 and also teamed up with classmate Josh Oothoudt (Minot, N.D.) for an 8-7 doubles win. Finkenbrink and Oothoudt again
paired up the following day to take an 8-3 decision at No. 2 doubles before
Finkenbrink beat WIU's Jeff Cote 6-4, 6-4 in the top singles slot.
Junior
Paul Swanson (Coon Rapids, Minn.) won
twice at No. 2 singles in Rockford, beating NIU's Roman Turtygin 6-4, 6-2 on
Friday, then turning around to defeat Patrick Hammers of WIU 6-2, 6-1.
Green
Bay's Christoph Hopfe (Castrop-Rauxel,
Germany) also had a strong weekend, as the sophomore won twice at the No. 4
singles spot. Hopfe beat Mandela Shepard of the Leathernecks 6-4, 6-1 on Saturday,
and also earned a 6-2, 6-3 win over NIU's Bryant Wei Friday.

Bay is next in action on Saturday, Feb. 19 when it travels to Dayton, Ohio to
take on the Flyers at 3 p.m.
