FALLS, Iowa (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay (1-3) softball team wrapped
up the UNI-Dome Tournament capturing its first win of the season with a 3-0 shutout over South Dakota Sunday, Feb. 13.
Danielle Peerenboom (Appleton, Wis.) hit an rbi double to right-center field in the top of the third inning scoring Sara Junion (Egg Harbor, Wis.) and Jessica Hrncar (Bristol, Wis.) to give Green Bay the 2-0 lead. Peerenboom led off the sixth inning with a single to left field before Cooney doubled to right-center field to score the final run for the Phoenix.
Senior Katie Cooney (East Moline, Ill.) pitched a complete game, allowing five hits while striking out four batters in the shutout.
In its first game of the day the Phoenix fell 8-0 in five
innings against Drake (5-0). The Bulldogs scored two runs in
the bottom of the first inning before tacking on three more in both the bottom
of the third and fourth innings.
Green Bay was unable to register
a hit throughout 16 at-bats. Tieraney Planasch (Juneau, Wis.) pitched 2.2
innings for the Phoenix while Ashley Nannemann (Burlington, Wis.) was on the
mound for 1.1.
On March 11-13 Green Bay will
participate in the Under Armour Showcase held in Clearwater, Fla. followed by the
Rebel Spring Games held March 15-19 in Orlando, Fla.
