AUSTIN, Texas (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Green Bay divers Daniel Pogue (Chisholm, Minn.) and Kayla Deters
(Sauk Rapids, Minn.) wrapped up day one at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships
on Friday at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center, hosted by the
University of Texas-Austin. Deters turned in her best Zones performance in the
3-meter dive, placing 32nd out of 41 competitors, while Pogue finished 20th on
the 1-meter board.
Deters' total of 232.20 was the second best
performance by a Phoenix female diver at the NCAA Zones, just one point behind
former standout Lauren McGraw's score at last year's competition (233.45).
"I was very pleased with Kayla's performance
in her final 3-meter competition for Green Bay," Phoenix diving coach Tom Stover said. "I'm glad that she can
go out feeling good about her last effort on the high board."
Pogue got off to a strong start with his
first three dives on the 1-meter board, but faltered on his fourth and fifth dives
before finishing strong on his sixth and final dive. Pogue finished just
outside of making the finals, scoring 248.60 points for 20th place.
"Unfortunately the two poor dives took Danny
out of the competition for getting into the final round," Stover said. "I fully
expect him to come back strong with his 3-meter event tomorrow and make the
finals."
Pogue will participate in the 3-meter
competition at 4:15 p.m. tomorrow, while Deters is scheduled for the 1-meter
dive at 10 a.m.
