GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com)
- The Green Bay men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted
their first home meets of the 2012-13 season on Saturday afternoon,
welcoming Cleveland State to
the Peter F. Dorschel Natatorium. The visiting Vikings earned victories
on both sides, winning 136-107 in the women's meet and 140-100 in the
men's competition.
"I was pleased with the efforts
today, but we have a lot of technical things that we need to make better
in our races," Green Bay head coach
Jim Merner said. "We're still working on getting into
training shape at this point, so I'm pleased with where we're at and
where we're headed."
Junior Kendra Rottier
(Green Bay, Wis.) was a two-time winner for the Phoenix women, cruising
to a 15-second victory in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:26.49) before
touching in first in the 200 backstroke
(2:08.20). Junior Parker Wolf (Kohler, Wis.) also picked up a victory in the pool for the women's squad, finishing first in 1:56.54 in the 200 freestyle.
The fourth win of the day for the Phoenix women came from junior diver
Carrie Dinelli (Northbrook, Ill.), who claimed a victory on the 3-meter board with a score of 240.15.
On the men's side, senior diver
Mitchell Spaeth (Fredonia, Wis.) placed first in the 3-meter event
with a huge score of 321.30. The total was good enough to qualify him
for his second consecutive trip to the NCAA Zone Diving Regionals, held
at the end of the season.
Freshman Connor Huff
(Dubuque, Iowa) also had a good showing for the Phoenix men in the
first home meet of his collegiate career, winning the 400 IM in 4:15.13.
The Green Bay swimmers and divers
return to action next Saturday when they host Wright State at noon at
the Peter F. Dorschel Natatorium.
