INDIANAPOLIS (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's and women's swimming and diving
teams both secured team titles on Sunday at the 2012 House of Champions
Invitational, hosted by IUPUI in Indianapolis. The women's squad finished the
three-day meet with 1,803 points to lead the seven-team field, while the men's
team placed first out of five teams with 1,836 points.
Both Green Bay teams
entered the final day in first place after strong
showings on Friday and Saturday, and both were able to increase their leads
and run away with victories on Sunday.
The Phoenix women started
strong by going 1-2 in Sunday's first final, the 1650-yard freestyle. After racing
to a win in the 500 free on Friday, junior Kendra Rottier (Green Bay, Wis.) picked up another individual victory in a
distance race, placing first in 17:02.73. Green Bay senior Melissa Killpatrick (Elk River, Minn.) finished behind her teammate
in second with a time of 17:17.89.
A pair of standouts from
the first two days of competition also performed well on Sunday for the Phoenix
women, as Dana Iverson (Kenosha,
Wis.) and Parker Wolf (Kohler, Wis.)
both earned second-place finishes. Iverson was the runner-up in the 200
backstroke, finishing in 2:04.23, while Wolf placed second in the 100 free in
51.25.
Aiding the men to victory
on Sunday was a trio of first-place finishes. Junior Brian Heiser (McFarland, Wis.) raced to an individual title in the
200 backstroke, touching in at 1:54.94. Classmate Robert Miner (Madison, Wis.) also picked up an individual victory
in the 200 butterfly, finishing first in 1:53.87.
Green Bay's third win came
in the meet's final event, as Tyler Evans (Lodi, Wis.), Cole Hackney
(Highlands Ranch, Colo.), Casey Murphy
(Sun Prairie, Wis.) and Ben Loeffelholz
(Dubuque, Iowa) teamed up to win the 400 free relay in 3:07.25.
The Phoenix men and women
are back in action on Saturday, Dec. 8, when they travel to Valparaiso to take
on the Horizon League rival Crusaders at 2 p.m. CT. It will be the final dual
meet before Green Bay departs for its annual Florida training trip Dec. 31-Jan.
