(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay
men's tennis team (8-2) had its eight-match winning streak snapped on Saturday
night at the hands of No. 75 DePaul, who defeated the Phoenix 4-3 at Lake Shore
Sport and Fitness in Chicago.
The duo of Erik Finkenbrink (Duelman, Germany) and
Craig Cox (Surrey, England) gave the Phoenix the early lead by securing the doubles
point with a victory at the No. 1 spot. With the No. 2 and No. 3 matches split,
the Green Bay juniors closed out an 8-6
win over DePaul's Mathias Hambach and Sven Kasper to give the visitors the advantage.
The Blue Demons rebounded, however, and took four of
the six singles matches to earn the 4-3 result.
Earning singles wins for the Phoenix were freshman
Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany) and senior Paul Swanson (Coon Rapids, MInn.).
Both won in three sets, as Tenzer defeated DePaul's George Chanturia 7-6 (6),
3-6, 10-8 at No. 2 and Swanson beat Mathia Hambach 7-6 (8), 2-6, 10-8 at No. 4
Green Bay is back in action on Saturday, March 3 when
it travels downstate to Madison to take on Wisconsin at 1 p.m.
