DES MOINES,
Iowa (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The
Green Bay men's tennis team (11-5) dropped a 7-0 result to No. 45 Drake on
Sunday at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center in Des Moines, Iowa. The Bulldogs
(17-2) took each of the three doubles matches before sweeping the six singles
contests in their first outdoor home match of the season.
In doubles, Green Bay's nationally-ranked duo of Felix
Goepper (Seelbach, Germany) and Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany) battled tough
at the No. 1 spot, but ended up falling 9-7 to Drake's Anis Ghorbel and James
McKie.
The Bulldogs won all six singles matches in straight
sets, beginning with Robin Goodman's 6-0, 6-2 win over Green Bay's Craig Cox
(Surrey, England) at No. 5. In the No. 1 contest, McKie defeated Phoenix senior
Paul Swanson (Coon Rapids, Minn.) 6-0, 7-6 (1), while Ghorbel beat Tenzer 6-4,
6-3 at the No. 2 spot.
Green Bay is back in action this weekend with its
first home matches since Feb. 19 when it hosts Horizon League foes UIC
(Saturday) and Valparaiso (Sunday) at Western Racquet and Fitness. The contests
mark the final home stand for the Phoenix this season.
