MILWAUKEE, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's tennis team (3-0) continued
its hot start to the spring season, defeating IUPUI 7-0 on Sunday in a
neutral-site contest at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium in Milwaukee. The win marked
the third in as many days for the Phoenix.
Green Bay gained
the early advantage, picking up the doubles point after a trio of tight
matches. Seniors Craig Cox (Surrey, England) and Erik Finkenbrink
(Duelmen, Germany) teamed up to win 8-6 over Jacob Bradley and Joel Modesitt at
No. 1, while Howard Scott (Exeter, England) and Michael Tebon
(Excelsior, Minn.) ensured the match's first point by picking up an 8-7 victory
at No. 3 against Deon Shafer and Thomas Gans.
The Phoenix went on to win all six singles matches,
including five of them in straight sets. Sophomore Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany) earned a win at the top spot, defeating
IUPUI's Jason Jaruvang 6-3, 6-2, while Finkenbrink rolled past Gans 6-0, 6-2 at
No. 2. The closest singles match of the day came between Cox and Shafer, one
that saw Cox prevail 6-3, 2-6, 10-7.
Green Bay looks to keep its winning streak alive next
weekend when it travels to Des Moines, Iowa to face UMKC on Saturday at 5 p.m. and
Drake on Sunday at 11 a.m.
