ROCKFORD, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Despite dropping the doubles point to start,
the Green Bay men's tennis team rallied for a 4-1 road victory over Northern
Illinois (7-3) Saturday afternoon at Boylan Tennis Center to improve to 7-1 on
the year.
After the Huskies
took the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles contests to secure the match's opening point,
the Phoenix stormed back to get wins at the No. 2 through No. 5 singles
contests. Senior Craig Cox (Surrey, England) came from behind to defeat
NIU's Frederic Cadieux 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3, while freshmen Leopold Gomez
Islinger (Weiden, Germany) and Joey Leto (Downers Grove, Ill.)
grabbed straight-set victories at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
It was senior Erik
Finkenbrink (Duelmen, Germany) who earned the match-clinching point at No.
2 singles, winning a hard-fought 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 battle with NIU's Axel Lagerlof.
The Phoenix is
back in action tomorrow in Milwaukee, facing Toledo at noon CT.
