Phoenix Squads Fall to Milwaukee on Senior Day

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's and women's swimming and diving teams both suffered losses to in-state Horizon League rival Milwaukee on Saturday in the regular season finale at the Peter F. Dorschel Natatorium. The Panthers had a winner in eight of the 13 women's events to down the Phoenix 130.5-112.5, while the visitors won 10 events on the men's side in the 162-81 win.

Saturday was also Senior Day for the Phoenix, as the program's 14 seniors were recognized prior to the meet.

Senior diver Mitchell Spaeth (Fredonia, Wis.) went out in style in the final home meet of his Phoenix career, winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. Spaeth's winning score of 342.07 in the 3-meter was a new personal record, topping his previous mark of 328.73, while his first-place 1-meter total of 313.13 was a season best.

Sophomore Ryan Korslin (Rudolph, Wis.) also won an event for the men's team, racing to victory in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.31).

Senior Megan Burley (Hazelhurst, Wis.) earned a victory on Senior Day for the Phoenix women, claiming the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.62. Picking up a pair of wins for the Green Bay women was junior Kendra Rottier (Green Bay, Wis.), who claimed the 1000 (10:36.87) and 500 (5:07.49) freestyle races.

Other first-place finishers on the women's side were juniors Parker Wolf (Kohler, Wis.) and Carrie Dinelli (Northbrook, Ill.). Wolf sprinted to a win in the 50 freestyle in 24.19, while Dinelli earned a decisive victory on the 3-meter diving board with a score of 274.35.

Senior Jessica Stolfi (Kenosha, Wis.), competing in her final home meet, set a personal best on the 1-meter board with a third-place score of 239.62.

Green Bay now has three weeks off from competition and is next in action at the 2013 Horizon League Championships in Chicago (Feb. 27-March 2).

Seniors honored prior to Saturday's meet were Tyler Evans, Robert Gorycki, Jonathan Lesniak, Andrew Lindstrom, Ian McSweeny and Mitchell Spaeth on the men's side, and Kelly Baron, Heather Bodin, Megan Burley, Lark Engen, Michaela Griffin, Melissa Killpatrick, Jessica Stolfi and Taylor Trelka on the women's side.
