CHICAGO (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men's tennis team improved to 2-0 in Horizon League play on Saturday with a convincing 6-1 road victory against UIC at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts in Chicago. The Phoenix improved to 12-6 on the year with the win, while the Flames dropped to 4-11 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Green Bay jumped out to the early lead by clinching the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Howard Scott (Exeter, England) and Michael Tebon (Excelsior, Minn.) blew by UIC's Alan Reifer and Christopher Cole 8-1 at No. 2, and seniors Erik Finkenbrink (Duelmen, Germany) and Craig Cox (Surrey, England) edged Alexander Raa and Isaac Lloveras 9-7 at No. 1.
In singles action, the Phoenix took the Nos. 1 through 5 matches to secure the 6-1 win. Sophomore Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany) came from behind at No. 1 to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 over Raa, while Finkenbrink, Cox, Scott and Rowan Isaaks (London, England) earned straight-set victories.
The Phoenix next begins a stretch of three straight matches at home, beginning with a contest against Youngstown State on Saturday, April 6 at 1 p.m. at Western Racquet and Fitness.
