MILWAUKEE, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's tennis team (7-4) dropped a pair of tough road matches against high-major opponents over the weekend, first falling 6-1 at nationally-ranked Purdue on Saturday in West Lafayette, Ind., and then losing a heartbreaker 4-3 at Marquette Sunday at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

The Phoenix started strong out of the gate on Sunday, taking two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. The senior duo of Craig Cox (Surrey, England) and Erik Finkenbrink (Duelmen, Germany) picked up an 8-4 win at No. 1 over Marquette's Dan Mamalat and Vukasin Teofanovic, while the underclassman pair of Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany) and Joey Leto (Downers Grove, Ill.) took an 8-3 win from Gleb Sklyr and David Packowitz at No. 3.

Green Bay took a 3-1 advantage after freshmen Rowan Isaaks (London, England) and Howard Scott (Exeter, England) earned singles victories. First, Isaaks knocked off J. Varela Hernani 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6, and then Scott took down Gleb Sklyr 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 at No. 5.

Marquette knotted things up at 3-3 with wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, and Golden Eagles junior Logon Collins secured the win with a comeback victory over Cox (4-6, 6-4, 7-6) at No. 3.

Cox earned the lone Phoenix point on Saturday against the No. 71 Boilermakers, picking up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Evan Hawkins at No. 3 singles. Tenzer and Leto also nabbed a doubles win at No. 3 (8-3).
