KALAMAZOO, Mich. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's tennis team opened its 2013 fall season on Friday at the Western Michigan Jack Vredevelt Invitational.
Sophomore Leopold Gomez Islinger (Weiden, Germany) picked up the lone singles victory of the opening day for the Phoenix, defeating Illinois State's Rolando Torrellas 6-4, 6-2 in the Black Singles draw.
Green Bay also had two doubles victories on Friday, as junior Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany) and sophomore Howard Scott (Exeter, England) won 8-4 against Xavier's duo of Mueck and Bishop in the Gold Doubles draw, and sophomore Joey Leto (Downers Grove, Ill.) and junior Michael Tebon (Excelsior, Minn.) defeated Western Michigan's Greiner and Hamilton 8-6 in the Brown Doubles bracket.
The Phoenix continues its participation at the WMU Invite on Saturday before wrapping up the event on Sunday.
