MINNEAPOLIS (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men's tennis team (3-1) was dealt its first loss of the 2014 season on Friday, falling 4-1 at No. 39 Minnesota (3-2) at the Baseline Tennis Center. The Phoenix got off to a strong start, claiming the doubles point, but the Golden Gophers won four straight singles matches to secure the victory.

Green Bay grabbed the 1-0 lead thanks to doubles wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Sophomore Joey Leto (Downers Grove, Ill.) and junior Michael Tebon (Excelsior, Minn.) got things started with a dominant 6-1 victory at No. 2 over Eric Frueh and Ruben Weber, and sophomore Howard Scott (Exeter, England) and junior Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany) clinched the match's opening point with a 6-3 win over Leandro Toledo and Franz Sydow at No. 1.

Singles play as a different story, however, as the nationally-ranked Golden Gophers took four contests in straight sets to end the match at 4-1.

Toledo evened the score at 1-1 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Scott at the top spot, while Minnesota's Mathieu Froment (No. 3), Jeremy Lynn (No. 4) and Sydow (No. 6) also earned wins.

Tenzer won his first game 6-0 against Weber at No. 2 singles, and Leto won 6-3 in the opener against Frueh at No. 5, but both matches went unfinished.

The Phoenix returns to action in Minneapolis on Saturday, taking on No. 63 Arkansas at noon.
