GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Green Bay divers
Bailey Wagner and
Michael Klemm have swept the Horizon League Diver of the Week Honors for the second week in a row, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
The seniors have taken both first-places spot on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards three times each, twice at the double header against St. Cloud State on October 6
th and 7
th, and also at the Green Bay vs. University of Illinois – Chicago vs. Valparaiso tri-meet last weekend. They have also earned Division I NCAA Zone qualifying marks numerous times this early in the season.
"I am so pleased to hear that Michael and Bailey have been selected as back-to-back award winners," said diving coach
Tom Stover. "I'm really proud of how these two have stepped up as leaders for their senior year. We've seen some great dives from both of them so far, and they have shown a tremendous amount of dedication in practice."
Currently, Wagner is ranked first in the Horizon League on both the 1-meter and 3-meter board. Klemm is ranked first in the league on the 3-meter board, but second on the 3-meter board. Out of all the divers in the country so far, they both have posted scores within the top 25 on the 3-meter board.
Klemm has now won nine total Horizon League Diver of the Week Honors throughout his career as a Phoenix. "I am extremely excited to be starting off my final year with two Diver of the Week honors right off the bat. I hope it is a sign of how the rest of the season will go for me as well as the entire team," he said.
This marks the fourth Horizon League Diver of the Week award for Wagner's career. "I'm incredibly honored," she said. "I'm excited to make the best out of my final year here. Being on this team has been a wonderful opportunity for me, and I have no doubt that this season will bring great things for me and the rest of the team."
Klemm and Wagner will be competing again this weekend at the All-Wisconsin Invite in Brown Deer, Wisconsin. They will be looking to sweep the boards for the third weekend in a row, this time against multiple other Wisconsin-based collegiate divers.
