Men's Tennis Bounces Back with 5-2 Win Over UIC

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Green Bay men's tennis team started slow but bounced back with a 5-2 win over Horizon League foe UIC on Saturday afternoon in Chicago.

The No. 2 doubles team of sophomore Charlie Ridout and Florian Kraenzler picked up the lone doubles win of the day by a score of 6-4. Green Bay's No.1 and No.3 doubles fell short vs. the Flames which handed UIC a 1-0 lead before singles play.

Green Bay fell behind 2-0 after No.4 Miles McDowall dropped his singles match in straight sets. However, one day after his win against Valparaiso, Freshman Ivan Radomirovic picked up the first point for the Phoenix with an impressive 6-2, 6-3 victory at No.6. Radomirovic improved his HL singles record to a perfect 5-0.

In a matter of minutes the Phoenix took a 3-2 lead against the Flames. No.2 Matej Kostadinov tied the match winning his first match of this year's HL campaign 7-6(1), 6-4 while the junior Kraenzler won his singles match 7-5, 7-5 at No. 1.

With the match on the line, both Ridout and Joshua Schramm had tough three-set battles. Sophomore Ridout clinched the victory for the Phoenix after a hard fought victory at No. 5 singles, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(3). With the match already being decided, Schramm picked up the fifth point for the Phoenix winning 6-7(7), 6-3, 6-4 at No.3.

Green Bay improved to 4-1 in conference play in 2017. The Phoenix will end this year's regular season with two home matches next weekend. The Phoenix will face Youngstown State on April 12 at 11.30 a.m. before finishing off the regular season on Sunday, April 23, at 3 p.m. vs. Cleveland State on senior day at Western Racquet and Fitness Club.
