IOWA CITY, Iowa (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay men's basketball team led for the majority of the first half and kept pace in a tough road tilt at Iowa on Sunday afternoon, but the Hawkeyes' late surge handed the Phoenix a 93-82 defeat at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The game was the first of four games for GB as part of the 2K Empire Classic, as the team now heads to the Pacific Northwest for a pair of games at Eastern Washington and a visit to a nationally-ranked Oregon side.
Green Bay (1-2) was led by
Sandy Cohen III and
Manny Patterson, who each finished with 17 points, with the Phoenix getting 69 shots from the field and forcing Iowa into 17 turnovers. The Hawkeyes (2-0) took a total of 45 free throws in the game, making 34 of them, while having six players score in double-figures.
A pair of game at Eastern Washington is on tap for the Phoenix, starting on Friday when it faces the host Eagles on Friday at 6:45 p.m. CT. GB will then face either UMKC or Morehead State on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT, depending on Friday's results.
