MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Green Bay men's tennis team fell 6-1 at the hands of Marquette on Friday night at Helfaer Tennis Stadium, before falling 5-2 to Northern Illinois on Saturday afternoon on Marquette's campus.
The Phoenix captured the doubles point from the Huskies, winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. NIU then went on to win five of the six singles matches, with James Ling picking up the win at No. 2 singles.
Head coach Tim Dean on facing NIU: "Our guys played some fast aggressive doubles today, but couldn't hold the lead. NIU came out fast in singles and stunned us a little bit after the fast doubles win. Another close match and we'll turn the corner by staying positive, giving full effort and keeping our composure on the court."
Dean on facing Marquette: "A tight match all around. Both doubles sets were one break away and one double was playing very solid. We battled in singles and just came up short. Marquette seemed to hit the right shots and get some bounces to go their way as well. We'll learn from today and focus on what we can control, focusing on future matches."
Charlie Croxford registered the lone win for Green Bay, winning 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. GB forced third sets in three other singles matches, including Florian Kraenzler at No. 1, James Ling at No. 2 and Tony Leto and No. 6 singles.
Green Bay will play its second home match of the season next Saturday (Feb. 17), when it welcomes Cardinal Stritch to Western Racquet. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
