INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Going into the Horizon League Championship as the No. 4 seed this upcoming weekend, the Green Bay men's tennis team has produced two All-League honorees, up from just one last year. Senior
Florian Kraenzler was awarded First Team honors for the second year in a row, while junior
James Ling was named to the All-Conference Second Team. The full release can be viewed
HERE.
Â
Kraenzler finished the regular season with a 13-5 record in the No.1 singles spot for the Phoenix, going 5-2 in Horizon League play against each of his opponents' top individual player. A native of Puchheim, Germany, the senior's only defeats in league play come from Player of the Year Nico Mostardi from Cleveland State and fellow First Team member David Beasley of IUPUI. However, since IUPUI did not make the league tournament, Kraenzler may only have to face one player that he has lost to in conference play this weekend.
Â
Ling posted a 14-5 record this season as well as 5-2 in league play, giving him the second-best percentage in the Horizon League at the No.2 singles spot at .714. The junior from Ipswich, England is on an impressive five-game win streak, having only lost to fellow Second Team members Matthew Terry of Cleveland State and Joao Garretto from Youngstown State on a rough road trip earlier in the season.
Â
Kraenzler and Ling will lead the fourth-seeded Phoenix into the first round of the Horizon League Championships this Friday (April 27) in West Lafayette, Indiana at Purdue University.
Â
Green Bay (11-9, 5-2 HL) will play the No. 5 ranked team UIC at 3:00 p.m. ET (2:00 p.m. CT). They last faced UIC at home,
defeating the Flames 5-2 on Senior Day. If they move on, the Phoenix will go head-to-head with the No.1 seed Detroit Mercy,
which they edged in a tight 4-3 match to begin their 5-game team win streak.
