ABOUT GREEN BAY (12-9 overall, 5-2 HL)
The Phoenix enters the tournament riding a five-match winning streak, the longest active winning streak of any Horizon League team. GB started 0-2 in HL play, facing a tough travel schedule in losses at Cleveland State and Youngstown State, but has since won five matches in a row, including wins over UIC (its Quarterfinals opponent) and Detroit Mercy (the tournament's top seed).Â
Senior
Florian Kraenzler and junior
James Ling, who will play at No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively this weekend, both earned Horizon All-League honors for their strong seasons. Kraenzler earned First Team recognition for the second-straight season, while Ling landed on the Second Team. The duo will also compete at No. 1 doubles and combined to go 10-4 individually in HL play this season.
Charlie Croxford and
Miles McDowall both went 4-3 in HL play this season, competing at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Croxford is 7-3 in his last 10 individual matches.
GB will pursue its fourth tournament championship all-time, winning in 2012, 2014 and 2015. The team also finished runner-up in 2016 and 2013. Valparaiso, winner of the last two tournaments, is no longer a member of the Horizon League. The last time the tournament was in Purdue, Green Bay defeated Valparaiso 4-0 to lift the trophy in 2015.Â
The winner of the Horizon League Tournament will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.Â
