GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men's tennis team, under first-year head coach
Brian Nelson, will open the 2019 slate this Friday, January 18. The Phoenix will be heading to Minneapolis, Minnesota to take on the DePaul Blue Demons at 5:00 p.m. The following day, Saturday, January 19, Green Bay will take on the Minnesota Gophers themselves at 5:00 p.m.
Green Bay boasts a seasoned roster, helped by six returners made up of five seniors and one junior. Leading the way is Horizon League Second Team member
James Ling, looking to finish his career strong after a successful junior campaign last year. Although the team is stacked with upperclassmen, the Phoenix will also be introducing three newcomers to the squad: freshmen
Dipin Wadhwa and
Stevie Young, along with junior
Lachlan Napier. The three additions should prove helpful in an effort to add depth and improve from the team's fourth-place standing in conference play last season.
This year, Green Bay has been picked
third in the Horizon League men's tennis preseason poll, moving up one place from their final standing last year due to the discontinuation of Detroit Mercy's men's tennis team. Notably, this was the No. 1 seed team that eliminated the Phoenix in the semifinals of the 2018 Horizon League Tournament.
