MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men's tennis team opened their 2019 season today with a matchup against the DePaul Blue Demons, dropping a tight contest 4-3 with the final decision coming down to the #3 singles match.
The Phoenix were able to take the doubles point, but only came away with two singles wins, thanks to senior
Tony Leto and junior
Ivan Radomirovic, as opposed to the three needed for a team victory.
"We played very well today being our first match," said first-year head coach
Brian Nelson. "With just four days of practice before, I was happy with the final result although we lost 4-3. We had some new doubles pairs and were able to win at number 1 and 3 doubles to clinch the doubles point, then Tony and Ivan came out on fire in singles. I'm very proud because if we get better every day there will be huge things ahead!"
Green Bay (0-1) will take on Minnesota tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. in an effort to clinch their first win of the season. Fans can follow the links on the men's tennis schedule page to watch the matches or keep up with the stats live.
