WHITEWATER, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay women's tennis team participated in the Warhawk Fall Invitational this past weekend.
The Phoenix performed well, making their way to the final round in No. 1 and No. 2 singles and doubles.
Junior
Estelle Vanthier won her first two matches in No. 1 singles over Maria Rivas (Roosevelt) 6-2, 6-2 and Lisa Keller in a walkover to go to the finals. Unfortunately, she was defeated in her final match against Klara Smolikova (Cardinal Stritch) 6-4, 6-3.
Sophomore
Tiana Glazbrook also won her first two matches for Green Bay, this time in No. 2 singles. She defeated Jessica Minkov (UW-Whitewater) 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and then took down Alexandra Taylor (Cardinal Strich) 6-3, 6-1 in the semis. Despite the slow start in the final round Glazbrook fought hard in the second set but was ultimately defeated 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) by Assya Trimara (Cardinal Stritch).
The pairing of sophomore
Mia Melnizki and
Estelle Vanthier reached the final round of No. 1 doubles with wins over Roosevelt and UW-Whitewater before falling to Cardinal Stritch. No. 2 doubles took a similar path for the duo of
Tiana Glazbrook and sophomore
Kimberley Kaome, with a victory over UW-Whitewater's pairing of Bryce Bigelow and Madalyn Bigelow. However, they fell to UW-Whitewater's other pairing of Olivia Kraft and Courtney Day in the final round.
Overall, Green Bay finishes 13-9 on the weekend in singles and doubles.
