DULUTH, Minn. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay Nordic Ski team raced well at the MTU CXC Cup over the weekend in their final preparation before US National Championships.
On Saturday, the men and women competed in the freestyle sprint to begin the weekend. On the men's side, redshirt junior
Sam Myers crossed the finish line first for the Phoenix with a time of 3:36.14, which placed him 22nd overall. Redshirt senior
Quinn Duffy followed right behind Myers with a time of 3:36.36. All six men for Green Bay finished within 8 seconds of one another
Freshman
Lara Ketterer led the way on the women's side with a time of 4:27.12, which placed her 32nd overall, while redshirt junior
Maria Schoening was next for the Phoenix with a time of 4:31.34.
On Sunday in the Classic Mass Start, Green Bay was led by
Maria Schoening and redshirt sophomore
Ian Ivens. Schoening finished ninth overall in the female under-23s with a time of 41:28.1 and Ivens placed 11th overall with in the male under-23s with a time of 29:46.8.
"It was a great weekend for the team. This was our last preparations before US National Championships after the New Year and it was great to have some breakout performances with half our team qualifying for the heats on Saturdays sprint," stated head coach
Jeremy Hecker. "On Sunday, we had equally good results as well. The standout race though belongs to
Ian Ivens who had his best race of his collegiate career racking up a top-15 CCSA finish."
