9/16/2019 12:13:00 PM

River Forest, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) –The Green Bay men's tennis team participated in the River Forest Collegiate Invitational this past weekend, which was highlighted with freshman Sam Dobbs winning the No.6 singles flight and the pairing of freshman George Botha and sophomore Dipin Wadha reaching the championship match of the No.1 doubles flight.

"It was great to get more wins than losses in both singles and doubles," remarked head coach Rob Oertel. "Anytime you can do that at a fall invite usually means it was successful as a team.  From an individual standpoint, I thought our new guys really stood out.  We definitely have some good solid building blocks for the future."

Dobbs was victorious in three singles matches to claim the No.6 flight.  He defeated St. Louis's Felipe Cruz 6-4, 6-3 to open the invitational.  During the semifinals, UIC's Anthony Nguyen retired due to injury which saw Dobbs faceoff against Western Michigan's Arjun Honnappa in the finals.  Dobbs took the championship match 6-4, 2-6, 10-3.

Botha/Wadha opened No.1 doubles against St. Louis's Nogalski/Tintore pairing, which saw Green Bay advance to the semifinals, 8-6.  In the semifinal matchup, Botha/Wadha defeated UIC's Strandberg/Parklo 8-4 to advance to the championship.  During the championship match, Botha/Wadha fell to VU's Ancona/Pecyna 8-3.
