CABLE, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) ---The Green Bay Nordic Ski team raced at the CCSA Gitchi Gami Games in Cable, Wisconsin, over the weekend.

Redshirt junior Maria Schoening earned the CCSA performance of the week honor with her first collegiate win in the women's sprint on Saturday.  Schoening reached the semifinals with a top 12 time in the five heat quarterfinals that featured 27 skiers.  She then had the top time in the two heats in the semifinals.  The redshirt junior capped off the win in the finals with a time of 3:36.28, nearly four seconds after than the second place finisher.

In the men's sprint, four members of the squad made it to the finals that only featured six skiers.  Freshman Jackson Adler claimed his first collegiate victory as well, taking the top spot with a time of 3:27.20.  Redshirt junior Sam Myers took second right behind Adler with a time of 3:27.34.  Juniors Tom Woolhouse and Shad Kraftson finished fourth and fifth with times of 3:29.38 and 3:30.66 respectively.

On Sunday, both the men and women participated in a 10k interval start.

Shad Krafton finished 16th overall and was the first to cross the finish line for the men with a time of 31:22.57.  Sam Myer crossed next for the team with a time of 31:42.77, which placed him 19th overall.

On the women's side, freshman Lara Ketterer crossed first for the Phoenix with a time of 37:23.63, finishing 13th overall.  Maria Schoening took 24th overall with a time of 40:33.66.
"This was a great weekend for the entire team. We had some breakout performances on Saturday with all six men racing moving forward into the semifinals, and finishing 1, 2, 4, 5 in the finals. Follow that up with Maria Schoening's CCSA performance of the week with her first collegiate win in the women's sprint," stated head coach Jeremy Hecker. "I am excited to see the improvements in performance over the past couple of weeks and am looking forward to seeing what we can do at our home event next weekend."
