GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) ---The Green Bay women's tennis team secured their first victory of the 2020 season with a 7-0 home win over Western Illinois.
The No.2 doubles team of sophomores
Mia Melnizki and
Tiana Glazbrook started things off for the Phoenix with a 6-2 victory. The No.1 doubles team of sophomore
Yasmin Glazbrook and junior
Estelle Vanthier followed next with the 6-2 victory of their own to secure the first point of the match for Green Bay.
The squad then swept the Bulldogs in singles.Â
Tiana Glazbrook finished first in No. 5 singles winning 6-0, 6-0, followed by
Estelle Vanthier who won No.2 singles 6-0, 6-4.
Freshman
Shreya Chakraborty then won No. 4 singles by the final scoring of 6-1, 6-3. Finally
Yasmin Glazbrook secured No. 1 singles with a 7-5, 6-1 win. Western Illinois only rostered five players in the match, which gave Green Bay the No. 6 singles point.
For the Phoenix, this is their first match victory over a division I opponent since March 2013, when the team defeated Valparaiso 7-0.Â
"This is a solid step in the right direction for the program," stated head coach Rob Oertel. "We added a number of few players to the team and once we get more comfortable as a group, I'm very optimistic in what this team can achieve this season. Their attitude has been tremendous thus far and I expect that to continue."
