GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) ---The Green Bay women's tennis team defeated Cardinal Stritch this evening by the final score of 6-1 at the Green Bay Tennis Center.
The Phoenix took the doubles point to begin the day. Sophomore
Mia Melnizki and junior
Kaori Terunuma won No. 2 doubles 6-2, while the pairing of freshman
Shreya Chakraborty and senior
Theresa Tebon won No. 3 doubles 6-4 for Green Bay.
The Phoenix were dominant in singles, winning five of six matches over the Wolves. Sophomore Kim Kaome started things off with a victory in No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-2. Junior
Estelle Vanthier and sophomore
Yasmin Glazbrook followed Kaome with wins in No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively to clinch the match officially for Green Bay.
Nonetheless, Chakraborty and Tebon went three sets in No 2. and No. 6 singles, both walking away winners in both their matches to give the Phoenix point five and six.
"The team was very focused on getting a victory today. Cardinal Stritch is ranked #10 in the NAIA national rankings and I'm proud of the effort and execution," stated head coach Rob Oertel. "This is a victory we can continue to build on."
