GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay women's tennis team defeated Valparaiso this afternoon by the final score of 6-1 at the Green Bay Tennis Center to extended their winning streak.
The No. 1 doubles pairing of sophomore
Yasmin Glazbrook and junior
Estelle Vanthier began with a 6-0 win, followed by freshman
Shreya Chakraborty and senior
Theresa Tebon securing No. 3 doubles with a 6-0 winner as well to earn Green Bay the first point of the match.
Sophomore
Mia Melnizki started singles off by defeating Valparaiso's Amanda Tabanera in the No. 3 slot by the score of 6-0, 6-2 to give the squad the 2-0 lead.
After losing a point in No. 2 singles, sophomore
Kimberley Kaome won No. 6 singles 6-4, 6-3 to extend the team's lead to 3-1. Vanthier then won No. 1 singles, defeating Claire Czerwonka 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 7-5 to officially claim the match for Green Bay.
"The ladies took care of business this weekend with two hard fought, character building wins," stated head coach Rob Oertel. "Valpo is a very competitive and these were hard fought points won today by the team. I'm very proud of our performance this afternoon to say the least."
