Chicago, Ill. – Saturday the Green Bay Diving team traveled to Chicago to compete in the UIC Diving Invitational in what is their final meet before the Horizon League Championships on Feb. 16-19.
"The UIC Diving Invitational provides a highly competitive, but fun environment for our divers with multiple teams and lots of divers attending," said diving coach
Tom Stover. "With the large number of quality divers involved, it gives the event a big time feeling and helps prepare our divers mentally and physically for the Horizon League Championship in two weeks."
Miles Rohrbaugh headlined the men's performances, taking eighth in the one-meter championships with a score of 261.60, and third in the three-meter championships with a 316.50.
Noah Marchiando and
Andy Groebner also competed in the one-meter, finishing with 188.30 and 188.30 points respectively. Both also dove in the three-meter, with Groebner grabbing 14
th with a final score of 204.15, and Marchiando finishing 16
th with a 177.30.
"Our four freshmen were working on creating their list of dives for conference while going against some very talented athletes," Stover continued. "With some of our dual meets cancelled recently, our freshmen divers needed this to find out what skills and techniques they need to focused on in practice for our upcoming conference meet at IUPUI."
"For Miles, it was a chance to fine tune his dives under pressure. He missed a couple of dives in the one-meter competition, and did not have the outcome we were hoping for, but he came back strong in the three-meter event to place third with some exceptional dives. Miles' total score for that event was one of his highest of his college career, but his last dive was his best. He just absolutely nailed the take off and ripped the entry to receive very high marks from the judges."
Karlie Woodall stood out for the women, finishing 15
th in the one-meter (183.60) and 13
th in the three-meter (189.40).
Emily Herman finished 18
th in the one-meter (147.55), and 15
th in the three-meter (163.55).
