Green Bay Impresses at Wisconsin Showcase

BROWN DEER, Wis. – The Green Bay swim and dive team went a couple hours south for the Wisconsin Showcase today. Green Bay competed among other schools from within the Dairyland, including St. Norbert, UW-Lacrosse, UW-Milwaukee, and UW-Oshkosh.
 
McKenna Metropulos was among some of the highlights for the women this afternoon, placing fourth in the 50-yard freestyle with a finals time of 24.92. Kaleigh Gale wasn't far behind, finishing sixth with a time of 25.34. Jacqui Rude was in the top-10 as well, placing eighth with a time of 25.47.
 
Grace Morgan notched a fourth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:25.08. Freshman Mia Pagel was able to spot a fourth-place completion in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.45. Esther Oswald impressed in the 200-yard backstroke, placing 2:11.66. Ella Anderson was near the top of the leaderboard in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing 1:07.76. Later on, she notched a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:30.37.
 
On the men's side, Max Kasal opened his day by taking first in the 50-yard freestyle, beating out Milwaukee's Ben Lorenz by 0.40 seconds for the top spot. He also notched a first-place completion of the 100-yard fly with a time of 49.98. Calvin Kremer had a fantastic outing, taking first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.26. He ensued by tallying a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:55.77. The Phoenix boasted three top-five finishers in the 100-yard breaststroke. Sebby Smolecki took first with a time of 58.30, while Eli Zimmerman placed third with a time of 59.96. Sebby's brother Alex was the fourth-place finisher with a time of 1:00.10. The Smolecki's also were in the top three in the 200-yard breaststroke. John Burnard was the first-place finisher in the 200-yard fly with a time of 1:59.45.
 
Andy Groebner and Sam Morris were second and third, respectively, in both the one and three-meter diving competitions. Freshman Annie Frederickson placed fourth on the three-meter board and fifth in the one-meter. She was just a couple of points shy of reaching third place in the one-meter.
 
COMING UP
The Phoenix will turn their attention to next Saturday's competition at Valparaiso.
