Kasal, Anderson Lead Phoenix at Rochester Invitational

Both men's and women's team tallied third-place finishes

ROCHESTER, Minn. - The Green Bay swimming and diving teams concluded a three-day meet at the Rochester Invitational yesterday, collecting third-place finishes on both teams. The Phoenix men tallied 1,142 team points, while the women racked up 1,408. Both the men's and women's teams from St. Cloud University won the invitational.

FINAL RESULTS

Max Kasal, who had great performances in the last meet vs. St. Norbert, picked up where he left off, placing second in the 50-yard freestyle. He was within a half-second of the top spot, but still scored 28 points. The sophomore went on to finish sixth in the 200-yard freestyle, which was a close race. Kasal completed the race less than two seconds back of the second-place finisher (Ben Thompson of St. Cloud State). Later, Kasal was again within a half-second of first place in the 100-yard freestyle, an event he won against St. Norbert. He also led the way in the 400-yard freestyle relay, helping the Phoenix finish second.

Ella Anderson also impressed for Green Bay, taking third place in the 100-yard breaststroke. She ensued with a four-place completion of the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing with a time of 2:25.14. The difference between Anderson and first place was less than two seconds. Junior Bailey Venden, after missing last season due to injury, returned to action for the first time this season, posting a new PR of 58.01 in the 100-yard freestyle.

Andy Groebner placed fourth in both the one and three-meter diving competitions. He was one point shy of reaching third on the one-meter. Annie Frederickson highlighted the women's portion of the diving contests', taking second on the three-meter board and third on the one-meter board. Avery Lommel won the three-meter event by 35 points, but Frederickson bested the third-place finisher by 21 points.
