INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The 2023 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships are halfway through after Thursday's action wrapped up.
McKenna Metropulos paced the Green Bay women with an 11th-place completion of the 50-yard freestyle, totaling six points and a time of 24.03. She was within two-tenths of a second from finishing as high as eighth. Caitlin Greenwalt, a freshman, showed out with an 11th-place finish in the one-meter dive event, tallying six points and 222.30 points.
As a team, GB finished sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The Phoenix finished nearly two seconds behind the fourth-place finisher, Cleveland State.
On the men's side, Sebby Smolecki stepped up with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard IM. He broke the program record by totaling 14 points and a time of 1:47.84, just sixth-tenths of a second from a third-place spot. Max Kasal had a good day, completing the 50-yard freestyle in sixth place with 13 points and a score of 20.30. His performance marked the second-fastest time in program history and as a freshman.
Green Bay concluded the day with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Ethan Braatz recorded the eighth-fastest time in program history with a time of 1:22.00.
