HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Green Bay Nordic Skiing team competed at the NCAA Central Regional Skiing Championship at the Michigan Tech Trails in Houghton, Michigan. The Phoenix placed fourth as a team both days behind Michigan Tech, Northern Michigan, and College of St. Scholastica.
Ryan Thieme led the Phoenix men in the 7.5K Skate, securing his second
top 10 finish of the season and earning 2
nd Team All-Region. Thieme finished the race in 17:07.9 to round out the race's top 10. GB had four other skiers finish in the top 30.
CJ Young came in 20
th,
Noah Erickson in 27
th,
Grant Rocheleau in 29
th, and
Derek Waddick in 30
th.
The women had three finish in the top 30, led by a season-best 20:51.8 time from
Silje Busklein to finish 20
th.
Jenna Johnson crossed the finish line in 22:37.3 for 28
th, and
Kiera Rotar finished in 22:51.0 for 29
th.
Thieme was also strong on Sunday in the 20K Classic, leading Green Bay with a 1:00:48.4 finish for a 12
th place finish. Erickson placed 16
th with a 1:02:34.3 and Waddick finished 22
nd with a 1:03:48.8. The Phoenix men placed third as a team in the 20K Classic, besting St. Scholastica by 1 point.
The Phoenix women was led once again by Busklein in the 20K Classic, finishing in 20
th place with a 1:11:20.1 time. Johnson and Rotar came in at 26
th and 27
th place respectively.
