ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Friday was day one at the Lindenwood Invite for the Green Bay softball team, as the Phoenix took down Bellarmine 2-0 before falling to Lindenwood, 5-0.
GAME 1 | GREEN BAY 2, BELLARMINE 0
The Phoenix got a gem pitching performance from Ava Schill in game one, who pitched a complete game shutout. In seven innings of work, Schill allowed five hits, struck out five, and walked one.
Green Bay got on the board first in the third inning thanks to an RBI groundout from Sam Saloun to score Bella Herman. The Phoenix doubled its lead in the fourth with another RBI grounder, this time from Karissa Laabs to score Lauren Porter.
The Knights threatened with first and third in the bottom of the seventh inning but failed to push any runs across as GB wrapped up the 2-0 win.
Five Phoenix got hits, led by a 1-for-2 with a walk performance from Hailey Heckenlaible. Sidney LaMotte and Porter each hit a double for GB's two extra-base hits.
GAME NOTES
» Both teams finished the game with five hits.
» The Phoenix drew four walks from Bellarmine pitching.
» Laabs was the lone Phoenix to steal a base in game one.
» Bellarmine was led offensively by junior Serenity Shemwell, who went 1-for-2.
» Selena Zuniga led the Knights pitching staff, throwing three shutout innings.
GAME 2 | LINDENWOOD 5, GREEN BAY 0
The Green Bay offense struggled in game two, finishing with two hits to Lindenwood's eight. The Lions scored one run in the second and then broke the game open in the fifth innings with four runs.
Amanda Weyh led the way for Lindenwood, pitching seven innings and allowing just two hits while striking out eight Phoenix.
Paeton Kringel got the ball to start for GB, pitching six innings while allowing four earned runs.
GAME NOTES
» Green Bay went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.
» Heckenlaible led the Phoenix at the plate, going 1-for-1. Herman went 1-for-2.
» Lindenwood was led offensively by Dallis Darnell, who went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
UP NEXT
Green Bay is back in action tomorrow with another doubleheader, starting with Lindenwood at 10 a.m. The Phoenix will then take on Western Illinois at 2 p.m. GB will wrap up the weekend with their final game against Western Illinois on Sunday at 10 a.m.
