GREEN BAY, Wis. – Wednesday was a tough day for the Green Bay softball team, as the Phoenix fell in both games of their doubleheader against St. Thomas. The Tommies took game one by a score of 7-1 before taking game two by a final of 13-1.
GAME 1 | St. Thomas 7, Green Bay 1
The Phoenix got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning thanks to an RBI single from Jordan Meng to score Paige Hanson. Meng's RBI is the first of her career.
Unfortunately for Green Bay, that would be the final time they would score. The Tommies responded with seven unanswered runs to take game one handily. The Tommies first poured on four runs in the top of the third before adding three more in the fifth.
Ava Schill (4-8) started and took the loss in the circle for Green Bay. Kelly Greene pitched 4.2 strong innings in relief, allowing just two earned runs on seven hits. In the batter's box, four Phoenix finished the game 1-for-3, Samantha Saloun, Paige Hanson, Jordan Meng, and Aidyn Messmann. Messmann was the lone Green Bay hitter to have an extra-base hit, tripling in the fourth inning with two outs.

» Green Bay pitchers limited St. Thomas to just 2-for-13 (.154) with runners in scoring position.
» St. Thomas outhit Green Bay 11-4.
» Ella Cook was outstanding for St. Thomas, going 3-for-3 at the plate with two home runs and five RBI while also pitching seven innings of one-run ball.
GAME 2 | St. Thomas 13, Green Bay 1
Trailing 1-0, the Phoenix responded in in the second inning when Hailey Heckenlaible came across to score after a sacrifice fly from Aidyn Messmann.
The Tommies would take back the lead with a run in the third and then two more in the fourth and fifth before exploding for nine runs in the top of the sixth to take a 13-1 lead. GB struggled to get the offense going in the bottom of the sixth to avoid the run rule.
GAME NOTES
» Martha Miller started the game for the Phoenix and took the loss.
» Heckenlaible led the Phoenix at the plate, going 1-for-1 with a walk and a run scored.
» UST outhit GB, 14-2.
COMING UP
The Phoenix will be back in Horizon League action this weekend when they host Oakland for a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday. GB and Oakland will start the series with a Saturday doubleheader at noon before a single game on Sunday at 11 a.m.
