Saloun Breaks Home Run Record, Phoenix Drops First Two to Oakland

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay softball team dropped a pair of games to the Horizon League's second-place team on Saturday, falling to Oakland 9-1 and 7-4. The Phoenix will finish the series tomorrow at 11 a.m.

GAME 1 | Oakland 9, Green Bay 1
Oakland didn't wait to start the scoring, singling a run home in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead after one inning. The visitors quadrupled that lead with a three-run homer in the top of the second.
The Phoenix struggled to get the bats going, collecting their first hit in the fifth inning, and scoring their first run in the bottom of the seventh. By that time, the Golden Grizzlies had built a 9-0 lead and contained GB to one run to wrap up game one 9-1.

Green Bay's run came after Kaylin Fahy hit into a fielder's choice to score Lauren Porter.

The Green Bay Phoenix struggled on Saturday, falling to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies 9-1 despite the efforts of L. Porter, who went 2-for-3.

Kelly Greene started and took the loss in the circle for Green Bay. At the plate, GB was led by Porter, who went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Madyson Baker, Paige Hanson, and Jordan Meng were the other Phoenix to register a hit.

GAME 2 | Oakland 7, Green Bay 4
The Phoenix started game two on top, with Hailey Heckenlaible singling home Bella Herman to take a 1-0 lead in the first. Unfortunately for GB, Oakland responded with seven unanswered runs.

Green Bay had runners in scoring position in multiple innings but was unable to capitalize until the bottom of the seventh. Sam Saloun got the scoring started with her record-breaking 19th career home run. That was followed up by an RBI triple from Hanson and an RBI single from Meng to bring the score to 7-4. That left GB with runners at first and second with one out, but Oakland reliever Mary Newton shut down the Phoenix rally to secure the 7-4 win.
