GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Oakland Golden Grizzlies proved to be too much for the Green Bay softball team on Sunday, sweeping the three-game series with a 4-1 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix got on the scoreboard first, with an RBI single from Bella Herman in the second inning that scored Aidyn Messmann. The Golden Grizzlies responded shortly after, tying the game with an RBI single of their own in the third inning.
GB was unable to respond, and Oakland tacked on two more runs to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Kamryn Troyer drove home two with a single up the middle. OU would add one more insurance run for starter Sydney Campbell in the top of the sixth, taking a 4-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning.
Marth Miller was solid in the circle for Green Bay but took the loss. She pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and four runs. Campbell was once again strong for Oakland, pitching seven innings of one-run ball.
GAME NOTES
» Oakland slightly outhit Green Bay, 7-5.
» Green Bay went 2-for-5 (.400) with runners in scoring position.
» Five different Phoenix registered a base hit on Sunday.
» Herman led the Phoenix at the plate, going 1-for-4 with an RBI.
ON THE HORIZON
The Phoenix will hit the road for the first time in two weeks, heading to Indianapolis for a three-game set against IUPUI. The series will start with a single game on Friday at 2 p.m. CT, before a Saturday doubleheader starting at noon CT.
