Green Bay Falls in First Two Games Against IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Green Bay softball team fell in their first two games at IUPUI on Friday, 9-1 and 6-2. The Phoenix and Jaguars will close out the series tomorrow at noon CT.

GAME 1 | IUPUI 9, Green Bay 1

The scoring didn't get started in game one until the bottom of the third inning when IUPUI singled home a run. The Phoenix responded immediately with a run in the top of the fourth to tie it up. Paige Hanson reached first on an error by the Jaguars' second baseman, which also scored Marissa Destache.

IUPUI broke the game open in the bottom half of the fourth with six runs, and then two more in the fifth to end the game on a run rule.

Samantha Saloun led Green Bay at the plate, going 1-for-1 with a walk.

GAME NOTES
» IUPUI outhit Green Bay 12-2.
» Martha Miller and Ava Schill pitched in game one.
» Kaylin Fahy was the other Phoenix to record a hit.

GAME 2 | IUPUI 6, Green Bay 2

Green Bay looked to bounce back with a run in the top of the first inning in game two after a Saloun grounder was thrown away and scored Bella Herman. The Jaguars matched the Phoenix with a run in the bottom half of the first.

The game remained tied until Fahy doubled home Anna Trimble to give GB a 2-1 lead. The hosts responded once again, this time with five runs in the bottom of the fourth. Those were the final runs of the game, as the Jaguars' pitching shut down the Phoenix offense and won 6-2.

Herman went 2-for-4 with a double to lead Green Bay at the plate. Kendal Herschbach, Gianna Sanchez, and Fahy also collected hits for GB.

Ava Schill started and took the loss in the circle for Green Bay. Miller was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 2.1 shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out two.

COMING UP

Green Bay will close out the IUPUI series tomorrow at noon before hitting the road for a St. Thomas doubleheader on Wednesday, April 24. Next weekend, the Phoenix will host Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday, April 26, and Saturday, April 27.
