DETROIT, Mich. – The opening game of the Green Bay-Detroit Mercy softball series came down to the wire, with the Titans grabbed the contest, 3-2. GB tied the game up in the top of the sixth, but UDM scored in the bottom of the sixth and held serve in the seventh to wrap up the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Phoenix first put runs on the board in the fifth inning when Kaylin Fahy hit a sac fly to score Karissa Laabs.
The Phoenix kept the Titans off the board before tying it up in the sixth. GB scored once on an RBI single off the bat of freshman Gianna Camacho, which brought the score level at 2-2. Unfortunately, the Titans responded with a run of their own in the sixth to secure the 3-2 win.
Ava Schill got the ball to start for Green Bay, going six innings while allowing just three runs on nine hits while striking out five.
GAME NOTES
» Green Bay went 3-for-7 (.429) with runners in scoring position.
» Green Bay pitchers limited Detroit Mercy to just 2-for-10 (.200) with runners in scoring position.
» Bella Herman led the Phoenix at the plate, going 2-for-4.
