ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Green Bay softball team defeated Indiana State 5-2 in their first game on Friday before falling 5-2 to Valparaiso in day two of the Lindenwood Invite.
GAME 1 | Green Bay 5, Indiana State 2
Jasmyn Trigueros (2-4) started in the circle and picked up the win for Green Bay. Trigueros went seven innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits, allowing three walks and striking out one.
Emma Krueger went 1-for-3, including a first-inning grand slam. Jenna Redders went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Paige Guse also helped out for Green Bay, going 1-for-3 with a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix struck right away, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Krueger hit a grand slam off Indiana State Starting Pitcher Lauren Sackett.
The Sycamores failed to push any runs across before the Phoenix added to their lead in the fourth inning. Green Bay pushed across a run on Redders' two-out RBI double, which increased the Phoenix lead to 5-0. Indiana State scored one run in the fifth and sixth innings, but Green Bay held on for the 5-2 win.

» The Phoenix out-hit the Sycamores at a 4-3 clip.
» Green Bay went 3-for-7 (.429) with runners in scoring position.
» Green Bay pitchers limited Indiana State to just 1-for-8 (.125) with runners in scoring position.
» Megan Asher led the Sycamores' pitching staff, throwing two shutout innings.
GAME 2 | Green Bay 2, Valparaiso 5
Ava Schill (0-3) started and took the loss in the circle for Green Bay in game two. Trigueros was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking none, and striking out one.
At the plate, the Phoenix was again paced by Krueger, who went 2-of-3 with a run scored. Gracie Anderson went 1-for-3, including the Phoenix's lone extra-base hit with a double. Bella Herman also helped out for Green Bay, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix was trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. A sac fly from Guse helped Krueger come across to score the first run of the game for Green Bay and get them on the board.
The Beacons then scored two runs to retake their advantage heading into the fifth inning, when the Phoenix responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. A sac fly from Sara Ebner scored Kendal Herschbach, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Beacons. The Phoenix was unable to get any closer, as Valparaiso added two runs to their tally in the fifth on the way to a 5-2 final.
GAME NOTES
» Green Bay left six runners on base to Valparaiso's nine.
» Krueger and Herman led the Phoenix at the plate, each going 2-for-3 at the plate and tallying four of GB's six hits combined.
ON THE HORIZON
The Phoenix will conclude their month of February and the Lindenwood Invite with a doubleheader, starting at 9 a.m. CST tomorrow in a rematch with Indiana State, followed by a rematch with the Lindenwood Lions, with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. CST.
