Phoenix Drops Final Games at Lindenwood Invite

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Green Bay fell in its final two games of the Lindenwood Invite on Sunday, dropping game one to Indiana State 3-1, followed by Lindenwood by a score of 10-3.

GAME 1 | Indiana State 3, Green Bay 1
Morgan Kostecka (0-4) started and took the loss in the circle for Green Bay. Ava Schill was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two shutout innings without allowing a hit and striking out three.

At the plate, the Phoenix were led by Paige Guse, who went 2-for-3 with a home run. Aidyn Messmann put together a standout performance as well, going 2-for-3.

The Phoenix was trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning when Guse put Green Bay on the board with a one-out solo home run. Unfortunately, the Phoenix were unable to get any closer, and neither team scored again in the final three innings.

GAME NOTES
» Green Bay pitchers faced 28 Indiana State hitters in the game, allowing six ground balls and five fly balls while striking out seven.
» Both teams finished the game with seven hits.
» Indiana State had one error in the field while GB had none.
» Caylee Gaytan led the Sycamores' pitching staff, throwing six innings of one-run ball and picking up the win.

GAME 2 | Lindenwood 10, Green Bay 3
After her standout performance in the circle in game one, Schill started game two and took the loss (0-4).

The Phoenix offense was paced by three hits from Gracie Anderson, including a double and an RBI. Emma Krueger was noteworthy at the dish as well, going 1-for-1 with two walks and an RBI. Jenna Redders also helped out for Green Bay, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double.

The Phoenix got the scoring started early, putting two runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Anderson doubled home the first run before Krueger drove in the second with a sac fly to make it 2-0 GB.

The Lions responded with a four-spot in the second and then one more in the third to take a 5-2 lead before the Phoenix got back on the board in the fourth. Bella Herman drove in Redders to make it 5-3. However, that was as close as GB got, with Lindenwood scoring runs in each of the next three innings and taking the game 10-3.

GAME NOTES
» Green Bay pitchers faced 33 Lindenwood hitters in the game, allowing seven ground balls and eight fly balls while striking out one.
» The Phoenix drew five walks from Lindenwood pitching.
» Lindenwood outhit GB 13-8.
» Lindenwood  was led offensively by Anna Sanders, who went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
» J. Hays led the Lions' pitching staff, throwing 4.1 innings of one-run ball.

UP NEXT
Green Bay will be back in action next weekend in its final tournament of the nonconference schedule. GB will kick the weekend off at the Boilermaker Softball Classic hosted by Purdue on Friday, March 6, against St. Bonaventure at 1:30 p.m.
