ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Green Bay Phoenix softball team opened its season falling in both games of their opening day doubleheader in Rosemont for the DePaul Dome Tournament on Friday.

GAME 1 | Green Bay 7, Drake 8
The Phoenix brought a 5-4 lead into the seventh inning but could not hold on and fell 8-7 to the Drake Bulldogs.

Freshman Jasmyn Trigueros (0-1) came out of the bullpen for Green Bay (0-1) and took the loss in her first collegiate appearance.

At the plate, the Phoenix were paced by sophomore Brooke Schwall, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Senior catcher Aidyn Messman put together a standout performance as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Sophomore Sara Ebner also helped out for Green Bay, the defending Co-Player of the Year in the Horizon League, went 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI double.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix got the scoring started early, putting three runs on the board in the top of the first inning thanks to a three-run home run off the bat of Schwall.

The Phoenix then held the Bulldogs scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Green Bay increased the lead to 4-0 on an RBI single from senior Bella Herman.

Drake fought back to even the ballgame at four before Green Bay reclaimed a 5-4 advantage in the sixth inning from Ebner's two-out RBI double.

Green Bay held the Bulldogs scoreless before their offense scored another two runs, with one run coming across on Messman's 1-out single, bringing the Green Bay advantage to 7-4. The Phoenix was unable to hold the lead, as Drake scored four times in the bottom half of the seventh to grab the 8-7 win.

GAME NOTES
» Green Bay's highest scoring inning was their three-run first inning.
» Four Green Bay hitters had multiple base knocks in the ballgame.
» Green Bay pitchers faced 40 Drake hitters in the game, allowing nine ground balls and eight fly balls while striking out one.
» Drake was led offensively by freshman Kiley Kindel, who went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and three RBIs.

GAME 2 | Green Bay 3, DePaul 7
The Green Bay Phoenix dropped the second of two games to the DePaul Blue Demons by a final score of 7-3.

Junior Ava Schill (0-1) got the ball to start for Green Bay (0-2) and took the loss.
Â
Junior Paeton Kringel was a bright spot in relief for the Phoenix, coming out of the bullpen and pitching three innings, giving up one run on two hits, with one walk and one strikeout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with three runs in the top of the first inning. The Phoenix was unable to hold the lead, as DePaul scored seven times over the remaining six innings and secured the 7-3 win.

» Green Bay's three runs all came across the plate in the first inning.
» Green Bay pitchers faced 28 DePaul hitters in the game, allowing 10 ground balls and five fly balls while striking out two.

The Phoenix will continue the DePaul Dome Tournament with a doubleheader tomorrow, starting at 10 AM CST in a rematch against Drake, before turning their focus to Valparaiso with first pitch slated for 12:30 PM CST.
