LaMotte Homers Three Times as Phoenix Takes First Two from IU Indy

GREEN BAY. Wis. – Sidney LaMotte homered in three straight at-bats across two games, as the Green Bay Phoenix softball team swept its home-opening doubleheader against IU Indy. GB took game one by a score of 12-4 in five innings, and 11-2 in game two, which also wrapped up in five innings.

With the pair of wins, GB moves to 2-3 in HL play. The Phoenix will look to complete the series sweep tomorrow at Noon CST.

GAME 1 | Green Bay 12, IU Indianapolis 4
Jasmyn Trigueros (3-8) got the win for Green Bay in the circle. The freshman right-hander went three innings, giving up four runs, two earned, on three hits, allowing one walk and striking out two. Morgan Kostecka also pitched well, going two shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking two, and striking out two.

Lamotte went 2-for-2 at the plate, with two homers and four RBI, which started with her pinch-hit homer in the fourth. Bella Herman also had a homer, but hers didn't leave the yard, as a three-run inside-the-park home run gave GB a 3-1 lead in the second inning. Emma Krueger also had a great game at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix was trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Herman's inside the park homer put GB up 3-1. The homer was the first of Herman's Phoenix career.

The Jaguars rallied to score three runs in the top of the third to take a 4-3 lead before the Phoenix got back on the board in the bottom half. Green Bay pushed two runs across on a two-run double off the bat of Paige Guse that brought home Alyssa DeMaio and Claire Coushman, which put the Phoenix back in front, 5-4.

Green Bay kept IU Indianapolis scoreless before expanding their lead to 9-4 the following inning. Krueger and Brooke Schwall each drove in a run before LaMotte's two-run homer made it 9-4 GB.

Green Bay held the Jaguars scoreless again in the fifth before a three-run bottom half was punctuated by another two-run homer from LaMotte that made the score 12-4 and ended the contest thanks to the run-rule.

GAME 2 | Green Bay 11, IU Indianapolis 2
Green Bay received contributions from every part of the lineup in game two, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Phoenix put 11 runs on the board while Ava Schill controlled the Jaguars' offense in the circle.

Schill (3-5) started and picked up the win for Green Bay. The right-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits, allowing one walk and striking out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Down 1-0, the Phoenix first put runs on the board in the second inning. Green Bay's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a third home run of the day for Sidney LaMotte.
The Jaguars cut into that lead a little bit, narrowing it to 4-2 thanks to a solo shot from Molly Kable. However, the Phoenix responded with four more runs in the third. Claire Coushman, Jenna Redders, Emily Jones, and Gracie Anderson all drove in runs as GB took an 8-2 lead after three.

Green Bay kept IU Indianapolis scoreless before expanding the lead even more in the following inning. Coushman drove in another run before a two-RBI double from Redders made it 11-2. Schill shut down the IU Indy offense in the top of the fifth, and the Phoenix held on for the 11-2 win.

ON THE HORIZON
As mentioned before, the Phoenix softball team will look to complete the sweep in their third game against the Jaguars tomorrow at King Park, with first pitch scheduled for Noon CST.
