GREEN BAY, Wis. - Sara Ebner collected four hits, but the Green Bay softball team fell to IU Indianapolis at King Park in the series finale on Saturday, 8-7.
Paeton Kringel came out of the bullpen for Green Bay (6-21, 2-4), stabilizing the Phoenix pitching staff before ultimately taking the loss. The right-hander went five innings, giving up just one run on eight hits, allowing one walk, and striking out one.
In addition to her four hits, Ebner had two doubles and an RBI to lead the Phoenix at the plate. Bella Herman put together a standout effort as well, going 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, and three RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix got on the board immediately, putting up three runs in the bottom of the first. The first run came on a Herman RBI triple before Emma Krueger homered to center to give GB the 3-0 lead.
IU Indy responded over the next two innings, scoring two runs in the second, and five runs in the third to grab a 7-3 advantage through two-and-a-half innings. The Phoenix battled back to score three more in the bottom of the fourth to cut that lead to 7-6. Ebner doubled in the first run, GB scored in the fourth before Herman doubled in two more.
Green Bay held the Jaguars off the board before rallying to tie it up at seven in the fifth inning thanks to a Claire Coushman single that drove in Katherine Filkowski. That was where the scoring ended for GB; however, as the Jaguars scored in the top of the seventh to make it 8-7, which would hold as the final score.
