Phoenix Falls to Youngstown State in Series Finale, 5-2

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Green Bay softball team fell  against the Youngstown State Penguins in their series finale on Saturday, 5-2. 
 
Jasmyn Trigueros (0-5) took the loss in the circle for Green Bay (11-25, 5-8). She pitched the first five innings for the Phoenix, allowing six hits, four runs, walking three, and striking out four.
 
In the batter's box, the Phoenix were led by Emily Jones, who went 2-for-2 on the day with a double, and a hit by pitch. The lone RBI for the Phoenix came on a SAC fly from Paige Guse in the fourth inning. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
The two teams were shutout the first three innings before the Phoenix got the scoring started in the fourth, putting two runs on the board. Green Bay scored the first run on a wild pitch that scored Bella Herman, followed by a SAC fly from Guse to score Jones.
 
The Penguins scored their first run on a solo home run from the bat of Selah Moyer before YSU added two more runs to take a 3-2 lead entering the sixth. Green Bay stranded two runners in the sixth inning while YSU added to their lead. Trigueros walked a batter before Schill came in for relief before Selah Moyer greeted the new arm from the bullpen with a two-run home run to deliver insurance runs that would secure the Penguins win,
 
GAME NOTES
» Green Bay was held to just four hits, two of which came from Emily Jones.
» Green Bay's highest scoring inning was the sixth, when it pushed three runs across.
» Emily Jones was 2-for-2 at the dish, improving to 10-of-14 (.714) in her last eight games and 10-of-16 (.625) on the season.
» Youngstown State was led offensively by Sam Moyer, who went 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBIs.
» Kelsey Ogin led the Penguins pitching staff, tossing a complete game of 7.0 innings of two-run ball.
 
COMING UP
The Phoenix softball team returns to Green Bay to begin a five-game home-stand to conclude the regular season. Green Bay will host a doubleheader against the St. Thomas Tommies at King Park on Monday, April 20, with game one beginning at 2 p.m. CST.
