INDIANAPOLIS -
The Green Bay women's tennis team dropped to the back draw of the 2009 Horizon League Women's Tennis Championship Friday, as the Phoenix lost to instate foe Milwaukee 4-2 in the tournament's first round.
With the setback, Green Bay awaits the winner of the Wright State/Valparaiso consolation match in the seventh-place match.
The Phoenix fell behind early after Milwaukee claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Emily Lawent and Lauryn Grimando battled tough at the No. 1 position before falling, 8-6.
Green Bay captured a pair of points in singles action to close the gap. Grimando registered a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles in keeping her momentum on the day, while Morgan Weuve also tallied a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles.
But Milwaukee picked up key wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles to regain the lead, and with a three-set win by Kari Kastenholz over Green Bay's Kelly Stadum at No. 2 singles, the Panthers secured the win.
