MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Green Bay
women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Creighton on Sunday in a match
that was much closer than the final score indicated. Green Bay (2-5) nearly
took the doubles point and extended the No. 6 singles match to three sets
before falling.
Green Bay's No. 3 doubles tandem of
Laura Bartingale (Green Bay, Wis.) and Morgan Weuve (Green Bay, Wis.) claimed
an 8-5 victory, giving the Phoenix a chance to take the doubles point. After
Green Bay lost the top spot, the No. 2 doubles match was the pivotal one, and
the Bluejays pulled out a 9-7 victory.
Weuve's strong day continued in
singles, as she claimed a straight-sets win at No. 3. She defeated Lauren
Mastro by a 7-6 (5), 6-4 count.
Green Bay's other winner was Lauryn Grimando (Oak Brook, Ill.), who triumphed in a classic battle by a 2-6, 6-2, 12-10
final at No. 5. Maria Anderson (Marshfield, Wis.), playing in the sixth
position, dropped a three-setter (4-6, 6-0, 10-7).
The Phoenix is next in action Friday
at Ball State.
