GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay women's tennis team split a pair of matches Saturday at the Green Bay Tennis Center, defeating Bradley 5-2, while falling to Northern Illinois by an identical score. The Phoenix is now 2-2 on the young season.
Against Bradley, Green Bay claimed the doubles point, and took three of the top four spots to clinch the win. Emily Lawent (Milwaukee, Wis.) won a tight clash at No. 1, while Green Bay natives Morgan Weuve and Laura Bartingale won at three and four, respectively. Maria Anderson also rolled to a victory at No. 6, dispatching her opponent 6-1, 6-0.
Singles winners against Northern Illinois were Jennifer Bradfield (Fairfield, Iowa) and Lauryn Grimando (Oak Brook, Ill.). Bradfield took a straight-sets win at No. 2, while Grimando pulled out a three-set win in the final position. Bartingale and Weuve teamed to win their No. 3 doubles match in a tiebreaker.
Green Bay returns to action Saturday in Milwaukee against Illinois State.
