BOARDMAN, Ohio - The Green Bay women's tennis team fell just
shy in a hard-fought match at Youngstown State Sunday, as the Phoenix fell by a
4-3 score to the host Penguins. The Phoenix is now 4-11 overall and 1-3 in
Horizon League play.
Green Bay claimed the doubles point to begin the match, as the
Phoenix won at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Lauryn Grimando (Oak Brook, Ill.)
and Emily Lawent (Milwaukee, Wis.) were victorious by an 8-5 count in the top
spot, while Laura Bartingale (Green Bay, Wis.) and Rebecca Nelson (Brookfield,
Wis.) scored an 8-5 victory in the three line.
Lawent won her singles match as well, earning an impressive
6-3, 6-3 triumph over Margarita
Sadovnikova at No. 1. Bartingale also was a two-time winner, as she
cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
The Penguins took the other four singles matches, however,
to squeak out the one-point victory. None of the six singles matches went three
sets.
Green Bay returns to the court next weekend when it completes
its 2010 road slate at Wright State and Butler.
